Don’t Look Away

Don’t look away
and don’t pretend
that you don’t see.
This child needs a hand.

Give all you can,
don’t be a scrooge.
Little you give
for her it’s huge.

Don’t look away
as if you don’t care,
because I know
compassion’s there.

Did you forget
your mezcal past.
You made it through,
this “coral” won’t last.

It’s tough out there
and life is cruel.
For this poor child
there are no rules.

Fends for her self
from day to day.
She never laughs,
don’t look away.
