Welcome to BantaaKids, the section dedicated to the creative work of the youngest writers among us.
This series will predominantly feature short stories written by ESL (English as a Second Language) students from J.S.Worth’s creative writing classes back in the real world, where he works as an English teacher in China.
These classes begin with a writing prompt (featured below) to which the students plan, draft, and then produce a final copy all in the space of 2 hours.
We hope you enjoy reading their fantastic work and can appreciate the level of dedication these young writers have put into their studies, especially given how challenging it is to learn a second language.

A Funny Dream
I appeared in an infinite white room with nothing but myself and a phone saying ‘You have been banned from existence’.
I was so afraid that I did nothing until almost half an hour. Then I found there was a telephone number that I never saw before. I tried to call the number. First, a strange man answered. Second, there was a little girl. They both said a kind of strange language and I couldn’t understand them. At this time, I heard a sound saying ‘You can find out the key of how to get out of here.’
I had nothing to do, so I began to walk around the room but I couldn’t see anything. After about three hours, I decided to give up. I was so tired and I sat down on the floor. Then I found a button on the floor! I wanted to press the button but I saw a sentence ‘If you press it, it will explode.’ I couldn’t think of any other way to get out of here so I closed my eyes and pressed it!
Oh my god! I was in my bedroom. It was a sunny morning. It was only a dream! What happened to me?
