The Frog Prince

Forward:

Welcome to BantaaKids, the section dedicated to the creative work of the youngest writers among us.

This series will predominantly feature short stories written by ESL (English as a Second Language) students from J.S.Worth’s creative writing classes back in the real world, where he works as an English teacher in China.

These classes begin with a writing prompt (featured below) to which the students plan, draft, and then produce a final copy all in the space of 2 hours.

We hope you enjoy reading their fantastic work and can appreciate the level of dedication these young writers have put into their studies, especially given how challenging it is to learn a second language.

Thanks

– J.S.Worth

The Frog Prince

by Elaine

Mobby is a prince from the most famous kingdom called ‘Pearlsland’. One day, his father the king proclaimed

“Poorland is is dangerous now. You must help them. Do you hear me, Mobby?”

He didn’t want to do that, but it was the king’s order. “Okay!” he said, but he thought he was a prince and didn’t need to go gto somewhere which was poor.

Finally, he went there. He met a girl who was beneficial. When his favourite toy fell into a pond, she swam to the middle of the pond and picked up the toy. She also washed the toy and gave it back to him. Mobby liked this girl and wanted to marry her.

The girl said “Can I bring my mum to your kingdom? She is sick now.”

“Of course!” Mobby was unsuspecting, he didn’t know actually that the girl was very poor. “Can I see your mother tomorrow?” he said when he smiled. The girl was convinced.

He saw the girl’s mother. He was selfish and cranky. “You’re too poor, you know? I am a prince! I don’t want to marry you at all!” The girl was pessimistic. She made a lot of commotion. Now she was very famished. She hadn’t eaten anything for two days. her mother too.

Her mother asked her “Why are you so sad?”

“Mobby… Mobby thinks I am so poor so he hates me very much!”

‘I will get you, Mobby!’ the girl’s mum thought.

After two days, she found Mobby. She said “Do you want to drink some juice?”

Mobby said “Yes” but also said he wouldn’t marry the girl. He didn’t know the girl’s mother was a witch so he drank the ‘Frog juice’. He turned into an ugly frog. He would be in a pond forever!

The girl said in the end “You’re poor and ugly now! That I think is your specialty!”
