Poem

Langston (an acrostic)

Life Not Without Laughter, syncopated to the sound of rhythm and Weary Blues

Aroused by the soulful presence on the ones and twos and the jazzy grooves

Negro spiritual essence, with an educated quintessence

Graciously moving the pen, no one really recognized you for the true artistry back then

Simply speaking your mind is what inspires us within our current time

To doubt the freedom to speech is usurped, especially when you taught us not to let our dreams be deferred

Onslaught continues of our cultured people, we question if we will ever be completely seen as human equals

Nevertheless thanks to you and the Renaissance Crew, out faith to the arts will forever remain true–especially when lobbying just won’t do

Honor and utmost respect to you, James Mercer Langston Hughes
